College principals adopt wait-and-watch policy

Published on:

Amid protest by leaders of various students' groups against cap on admissions in various degree courses, the college principals of DBS (PG) College and DAV (PG) College seem to be following wait and watch policy as these college principals have not received any fresh instructions from the State Government and HNB Garhwal Central University after Chief Minister's recent direction to the colleges to follow last years' admission process.

However, HNB Garhwal Central University vice chancellor in-charge Prof MSM Rawat said that in compliance with the High Court order, admission in various bachelor degree courses in all the Government and Government-aided degree colleges in the State will be held as per sanctioned seats.

Meanwhile, DBS (G) College and DAV (PG) College principals are extending the dates for admissions in various degree courses of first year students. The DBS (PG) College released its merit list for admission in first year on Saturday with admissions slated to start from Tuesday.

Following protest by leaders of various students groups over cap on admissions in various bachelor degrees and merit based admissions, college principal OP Kulshreshtha is not sure whether admission would begin from Tuesday and hinted that the date may be extend by some days further.

Under pressure from student leaders, DAV (PG) College principal Devendra Bhasin has the admissions for first year students of bachelor degrees on hold till Saturday. He seems to be awaiting fresh direction from the State Government after the chief minister's direction to follow last year's admission pattern. He is also waiting to see how other colleges implement the HC order regarding

admissions.

Bhasin said that in compliance with the HC order, admissions on sectioned seats will be held in the college. The college will start selling admission prospectus for first year students from Saturday. The admission for second and third year students would begin with the formation of college admission committee on Wednesday, he added.

In another development, students led by former students' union president Sanket Nautiyal gheraoed the DBS (PG) College principal and demanded that last year's admission pattern be followed this year. "The union will intensify its protest in the college campus unless our demand is met," he warned.

However, college principal Kulshreshtha said that student leaders met him but they have not submitted a memorandum highlighting their demands. "We have released merit list for admission in various bachelor degree courses on Saturday and admission would begin from Tuesday," he added.
