The students of the College of Engineering Roorkee (COER) took pains for years to come into the finals of Cyborg Breakin robotics event while struggling every inch to surge ahead of those from the renowned IITs. Finally, their resolve and grit paid. The two robots- a manual and an automatic- made by the team of students have won warm appreciation along with a cash award of Rs 50,000. The success tasted sweeter as their rivals in the final were the students of IIT Roorkee.
The winners - Ayush Jain, Shashank Sharma and Gagandeep- had thought of a problem statement which might occur in 2050 and presented robotic solution for the same. “Things are like this. ISRO has already set up its base station on Mars and is going on with its secret military nuclear research programmes. But unfortunately the Martians have captured all the base stations there and also taken over all the weapons which could possess potential harm to the earth. Now ISRO comes up with an idea to send a team on Mars to detonate all the nuclear weapons and save the mother earth. As a part of the taskforce team, we have brought out robots which can survive the harsh conditions of Mars, successfully take on all the hurdles and finally establish their supremacy over the Martians,” shared the coordinator of the team Subarno Bhattacharya.
Notably, a total of 50 teams from institutions like MNNIT Allahabad, IIT Patna, IIT Roorkee, MlNIT and GBPU participated and the concept given by the team from College of Engineering Roorkee won the award.
