The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and Chief Minister Harish Rawat's son Anand Singh Rawat has submitted a memorandum to the State Governor KK Paul seeking inclusion of the State's history, geography, culture, tourism, environment and disaster management in the university curriculum and some 'corrective' alterations in the PCS examination conducted by the Uttarakhand public service commission.
In the letter, the PCC general secretary stated that at a recent programme organised in Dehradun, focus was elicited on the fact that compared to other States, the number of questions based on local subjects was quite less in the provincial civil services examination in Uttarakhand.
He states, "It was stated that the number of such local subject based questions in provincial public service examinations in different States was 48 out of 100 in Jharkhand, 42 out of 100 in Chhattisgarh, 42 out of 130 in Rajasthn. However, in Uttarakhand in the past two years the number of questions based on local subjects was 10 out of 150 and 22 out of 150. This is preventing the local youth from being selected in the provincial civil services." The chief minister's son has requested that State specific aspects be included in the State university curriculum in addition to which the number of local subject based questions in the provincial civil services examination should also be increased.
