CM's plan to connect revenue villages with roads hits roadblock

Published on:

The Chief Minister's ambitious plan of connecting revenue villages with roads under the rural road scheme has taken a back seat in Nainital as the Nainital district administration has not yet succeeded to complete even the rudimentary survey of 32 roads under this ambitious programme of smoothening rural road connectivity.

Chief Minister had asked the district administration to carry out the rural road project on priority basis. With things moving sluggishly despite CM’s exhortations, district magistrate, Nainital, Deepak Rawat asked   the officials concerned of the rural engineering services (RES) to complete the necessary formalities, including survey of  roads connecting  different revenue villages, at the earliest.  He also stressed on the works being executed in phases. Under the first phase, RES officials would  conduct survey of single road connecting two revenue villages in a block.

likewise, in the second phase, the officials would submit proposals for constructing three roads connecting different revenue villages in each of the blocks.

Earlier, reiterating his Government's commitment to provide better road connectivity, Chief Minister Harish Rawat had directed the officials concerned of all the district departments to submit proposals of road construction for all those villages which are yet to be connected with roads.

To speed things up, State Government asked the officials concerned to construct roads in such areas which are not under the jurisdiction of the forest department.  Things might be delayed when it comes to building such roads on the forest lands. In such cases, the officials concerned are supposed to ask the State Government in writing to have such lands obtained from the forest department.
