Chief Minister’s media in-charge Surendra Kumar Agarwal said that CM Harish Rawat had announced that this rape-cum-murder case and all other cases of sexual assault in the State would be tried in a fast track court.
Additionally, the CM had formed a one-member committee to enquire the Haldwani incident of rape cum murder to ascertain whether there was any lapse on part of the police.
Addressing the media at the Congress Bhawan, Upadhyaya accused the BJP of politicising a heinous crime while adding that organisational units of the Congress had burnt the BJP in effigy across the State to protest against this.
“On Saturday, our delegation headed by Surendra Singh Arya will submit a memorandum to the election commission seeking that BJP be barred from contesting elections in the State for the attack on the Chief Minister,” he said.
Meanwhile, Agarwal said, “The CM had announced the formation of a one-member inquiry committee comprising additional secretary Shailesh Bagauli to ascertain whether there were lapses by the police in the case. He has been directed to submit his report in 10 days. Even those accused in the case have been arrested but still the BJP resorted to a pre-planned attack on the CM for political gain,” he said, while adding that one of the persons involved in the attack on the chief minister has been identified as the son of a former BJP minister.
He said that cabinet ministers Indira Hridayesh, Yashpal Arya and Congress leader Prayag Datt Bhatt had sustained minor injuries in the incident. Agarwal condoled injuries sustained by media persons in the lathi-charge by police following the stone pelting on the CM’s car.
Meanwhile the Congress has strongly condemned the stone pelting on chief minister Harish Rawat’s car at Haldwani with the Uttarakand Pradesh Congress Committee chief Kishore Upadhyaya accusing the BJP of trying to politicise the rape cum murder of a girl in Haldwani. Upadhyaya termed the incident a “murderous attack” on the Chief Minister.
