The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay has criticised the BJP's State chief and leader of Opposition for criticising the public disclosure of Chief Minister Harish Rawat's assets.
In a statement released on the media on Friday, Kishore Upadhyay strongly condemned the BJP's criticism of the public disclosure of the Chief Minister's assets. He said that political parties should welcome the step taken by the CM to encourage transparency in public life and control corruption but the BJP leaders are criticising it.
The PCC chief states, "The BJP was in power in Uttarakhand from 2000 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2012 weakening the State's economy with corruption. The Uttarakhand Chief Minister has set an example for Chief Ministers, ministers and people in public life across the nation and politics will become cleaner and stronger if the BJP leaders exhort the prime minister and union ministers to follow this example."
Regarding the statements made by leader of opposition Ajay Bhatt and BJP State chief Trivendra Singh Rawat that they had disclosed details of their assets in the Vidhan Sabha, the PCC chief said that there should be no problem with them disclosing the same information public.
Condemning the
criticism by the BJP leaders of the Indira Amma Bhojanalay scheme initiated by the
Chief Minister, Upadhyay said that criticising even positive works had become a habit with BJP leaders.
The PCC chief alleged that the opposition leaders were viewing provision of cheap meals to the poor from the political perspective. Upadhyay stated, "Uttarakhand is the only State in India where such canteens are being opened to provide satisfying meals to the poor for cheap despite the consistent price rise being caused by the anti-public policies of the Central Government."
It is pertinent to mention here that a couple of days ago the PCC chief had made public the details of Chief Minister Harish Rawat and his wife Renuka Rawat's assets.
As per the information submitted by Rawat to the PCC, the value of the CM's movable and immovable property is about Rs 1.89 crore while the value of his wife Renuka Rawat's movable and immovable property is about Rs 1.34 crore.
