President Ram Nath Kovind reached Rajbhawan, Dehradun on Saturday evening. Earlier at noon, Governor Dr KK Paul and Chief Minister welcomed the President at Jolly Grant Airport. This is his first visit to the state after he became the President.
He was given guard of honour by Indian Army at the airport. Among others present at the airport to welcome him were the chief secretary S Ramaswami, DGP Anil Kumar Raturi, IMA Commandant SK Jha and Major General JS Yadav. The presidential cavalcade reached Dehradun from Haridwar where he attended programmes Har-Ki-Pauri and Divya Prem Seva Mission.
Dehradun senior superintendent of police Nivedita Kukreti said that the presidential cavalcade left Haridwar for Dehradun at around 5.30 pm and reached Rajbhawan at around 7.15 pm. Dehradun police had made a contingency plan for the dignitary via roads in view of the incessant rainfall lashing the city. Additional police forces were deployed on roads and other strategic locations when the presidential fleet passed. Traffic was blocked for a while at some crossings during the time the cavalcade passed.
SSP said that elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in Dehradun and Haridwar and also in Kednarath and Badrinath in view of the President’s scheduled trip to the shrines on Sunday.
