The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat visited Rampur Tiraha in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday-the site of the massacre of statehood activists on October 2, 1994- and paid homage to those who laid down their lives for the cause of the statehood.
“Uttarakhand has become a State thanks to the struggle, suffering and sacrifice of the statehood agitators,” CM said. Recalling what happened on the day in 1994, he said that the excitement of the statehood agitators marching to Delhi to demand the formation of the State was still vivid in his mind. “It was followed by brutal atrocities perpetrated on the peace-loving people by the police. In the incident, seven agitators got martyred,” he said.
He said that the struggle for the formation of Uttarakhand had seen martyrdom of 28 people in different places like Mussoorie, Khatima, Shri Yantra Tapu and Rampur Tiraha. “We have got the State because of the sacrifice undergone by these dedicated people,” he said.
“In tune with the dream dreamt by the statehood agitators of a new Uttarakhand, the State is marching apace on the path of progress. By the time the State will celebrate its silver jubilee, it will go a long way on the development path. By 2025, water supply, roads, better health and education will be provided to every household. In the past one and a half years, efforts have been made to speed up the State's rapid development. Teachers and doctors have been appointed in the hill areas. Currently 93 per cent teachers are available in degree colleges. Things would reach 100 per cent soon. Besides, 25 ITI’s in the State are being upgraded. As the State is set to get more and more trade, there would be no dearth of skilled children,” he said.
Dwelling on the Investors Summit–Destination Uttarakhand, he said that so far, 1700 big industrialists have registered. “So far, the State has received proposals worth Rs 77,000 crore. Uttarakhand provides electricity at the cheapest rate,” he said.
“ All the 22.5 lakh families of the State will be covered under Atal Uttarakhand Ayushman Yojana, meant to provide health facilities. All the Nyay Panchayats of the State are being developed as a growth centers through which local and organic products are being promoted,” he said.
CM also paid tribute to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Late Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries. He paid floral tributes to the former MP late Malti Sharma at her residence in Dwarkapuri, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. He said that Sharma had helped the statehood agitators. “The State would always hold her in grateful remembrance,” he said.
