Chief Minister Trivendra Singh  Rawat  said that the people must watch the developments happening in the Himalayas with keen interest while inaugurating the three- day seminar on Environment, Resources and Development Of The Indian Himalaya hosted at the  H N Bahuguna Garhwal Central University at Srinagar on Thursday. The minister of state for higher education Dhan Singh Rawat, MLA Devprayag Vinod Kandari and the acting vice- chancellor of the university were present when the CM inaugurated the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, the CM said that while the Himalayas do not need humans for its survival the humans on the other hand need the majestic mountain chains for their own survival. “The rivers are flowing thanks to the Himalayas. We in Uttarakhand cannot exist without the Himalayas. They are nurturing us   and protecting us. No development in the state is possible without the Himalayas,” he said.

Dwelling on the numerous problems the Himalayas are facing, CM Rawat said that they must be solved with the combined efforts of the people. “As the scientists must find out ways to solve the problems the Himalayas are facing the common people must also contribute their mite in the momentous task. The intelligentsia must also play its role seriously. We must preserve the environment around the Himalayas for our own survival. This is the time for us to reckon our duty to the Himalayas to ensure our own survival,” he said.

Rawat also spoke of the state being endowed with a large number of plants with medicinal properties.  “They must be preserved. They must be used for humanity. They are the precious gifts of the Himalayas,” the CM said while urging all the sections of the society to come forward to   ensure the survival of the humans through rightly conserving the environment of the Himalayas.
