Chief minister Harish Rawat unveiled foundations and dedicated to the public various developmental and other works apart from announcing approval to various measures at the Himgiri Stadium in letibunga, Haldwani here on Thursday. Rawat initiated ceremonial work on 18 different developmental works amounting in total to about ` 28.44 crore. On the occasion the chief minister also declared approval and dedicated to the public various other construction and developmental works including construction of motor roads, repair and revival of agricultural canals in different parts of the region.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the chief minister announced that Khansyu would be accorded the status of Tehsil while Ramgadh will be made a sub-Tehsil, apart from which Bhimtal Nagar Panchayat will be upgraded into a municipal council. The CM further proclaimed to the public that this time, a target has been set for construction of motor roads totaling in length to 700 kilometres. Averring that the State Government is facilitating consistent supply of electricity across the State, Rawat further aid that women self help groups will be provided ` 25,000 each in the form of seed money while ` 5,000 each will also be deposited in the accounts of Mahila Mangal Dal with necessary instructions already having been issued to the district magistrates concerned. He said that district magistrates will facilitate the holding of weekly bazaar for the marketing of products made by the women self help groups in order to enable the local women secure local market for their products. The CM averred that the State authorities have been undertaking various works in order to encourage eco-tourism, handicraft, organic farming, cultivation of fruits and pulses among other produce in order to make the local residents self-reliant and thereby mitigate the migration of people from the rural mountainous areas.
He also informed that the official procedure is currently underway to ensure provision of land ownership rights to the landless persons.
