Chief Minister Harish Rawat will inaugurate the new office of Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission at Brahmawala on Sahastradhara Road on Tuesday. The UHRC chairman Justice Vijendra Jain said  the office would be shifted from the present 200 square feet space at Chander Road.

Jain said that in its short tenure of 1 year and 2 months the commission has resolved 900 complaints out of 1400 which were received by it. He said that the commission is committed to ensure good governance.

Jain said that the commission organised a two day Police Sensitisation Workshop recently where Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra of Supreme Court and other legal luminaries deliberated on the human rights laws. He informed that the commission on the occasion of National law Day last year undertook a tour of the jails of the state in which the jail inmates and officials were told about the rights of the jail inmates.

Jain informed that the Uttarakhand government on the directive of the commission has taken an initiative of providing protection to Right to Information (RTI) activists of the state. He added that the commission has constituted a road map for protection of human rights in the remote areas and for this it would organise workshops at district and block levels. In these workshops the members of the commission and other legal experts would create awareness for human right protection among people.
