In a move which is sure to warm the hearts of the art lovers of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Harish Rawat will lay the foundation of the State’s first art gallery in Dehradun on Thursday. The State Government has chosen a place in the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) complex located near the busy Clock Tower of the city for the art gallery. The MDDA is entrusted with the task of constructing the gallery.

The Uttarakhand CM had recently instructed the MDDA to find a place to set up an art gallery. The gallery which is expected to come up soon would depict the glorious history, cultural heritage and religious places in the State of Uttarakhand. With the wishes of CM, the gallery would also have a museum for art and visual arts. The gallery would provide a platform for the young and budding artists of the State where they could showcase their talent.

The people associated with art and culture has welcomed the decision to open an art gallery in Dehradun. In absence of an art gallery the artists had to rent a place in some high end hotels for showing their piece of works which used to weigh heavy on their pockets. The gallery is expected to give fillip to the religious tourism and Char Dham yatra as it would have detailed account of the places of religious interest and Char Dham yatra. The rapidly vanishing art forms of mountainous areas of the state like aipan would also get a platform from the art gallery.
