CM stresses on tree plantation

Published on:

Chief Minister Harish Rawat has stressed on the plantation of various types of trees in the State. Holding a meeting late on Saturday night at the Bijapur guest house with the chief wildlife warden Dig Vijay Singh Khati, the Chief Minister instructed that Mehar, Ghingharu, mango, guava and other fruit trees be planted in the forests.

The chief minister said that the incidence of monkeys and other wild animals entering human habitations can be reduced by ensuring that food is available to the wild animals within the forest areas.

For this purpose, the state forest department should undertake the plantation of Mehar trees in mission mode.

Expressing concern over the rising incidence of human-wildlife conflict, he said that the wild animals need to be prevented from visiting areas inhabited by humans in order to mitigate the conflict situation.

Plantation of various native fruit trees and other flora is of vital importance in order to mitigate the continuing conflict between humans and wild animals.

With the source of food being provided to the wild animals in the forest areas, they are  more likely to remain in the jungles and desist from entering human habitations, he added.
