CM seeks budgetary tips from V-C

Chief Minister Harish Rawat has sought suggestions regarding biotechnology from Kumaon University vice-chancellor HS Dhami in view of the Budget to be presented soon by the State Government.

Rawat said this while speaking at the start of the 27th two-day national workshop on biometrics and informatics held jointly by the Union Government department of science and technology along with Kumaon university’s biotechnology department at Bhimtal.

Rawat said that Uttarakhand’s biodiversity is the basis for the State’s identity where farmers in mountainous areas still prefer to use organic manure instead of chemical fertilisers. He said, “Uttarakhand has immense scope for development based on biodiversity. Considerable success in information technology means that about 80 per cent people have adopted the use of mobile phone, internet and social media.  Considering this, scientists should disseminate their ideas and suggestions among the public. Biotechnology is a means for increasing agricultural produce along with generation of employment opportunities. The State Government will provide all necessary facilities for the development of biotechnology,” said Rawat.

Stating that the State Government would soon be presenting its Budget, the CM also asked the Kumaon university vice-chancellor to give his suggestions regarding biotechnology so that necessary provision can be made for it in the budget. MlA Sarita Arya, members of the scientific and academic fraternity were also among those present at the workshop being attended by more than 100 subject experts from across the nation.
