Chief Minister Harish Rawat now seems to be passing through a difficult phase in a little over six months since he became the head of the State Government. Dissidence is surfacing, making his position in the Government and the party vulnerable. One of his close confidants Mayukh Mahar, the ruling party MlA from Pithoragarh, keeps venting resentment against his own party’s Government on the issue of non-implementation of some of the developmental projects meant for his Assembly constituency.
However, the State Government is doing everything to dissuade him from carrying on with the campaigns which reflects the party and the party’s Government in poor light. The senior leaders did try to stop the sulking MlA from going ahead with his plan to stage protest from October. He was assured too that his grievances would be duly addressed and redressed. It may be recalled that the Chief Minister Rawat sent his emissaries, including Ranjeet Singh Rawat, former MlA from Salt in Almora, to mollify the disgruntled Congress MlA from Pithoragarh, while accepting, as the party leaders here claimed, most of his Assembly constituency-related demands. More recently, none other than the Speaker of the State legislative Assembly Govind Singh Kunjwal also called on the MlA from Pithoragarh, as a representative from the Chief Minister. Yet, defying the sentiments of his party and the Chief Minister, Mahar went ahead, staging protest from Thursday against his own party
