Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Sunday paid tribute to the martyrs of Uttarakhand aandolankaris, who sacrificed their lives during agitation at Rampur, Tiraha in Muzaffarnagar district on October 2, 1994. He said that the bad omen happened on the occasion of birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, who always fought for humanity and non-violence but “we had to face police repression on that day”.

CM Rawat said, “It gives impression that Government repression is always unethical. Today Uttarakhand is rocking on progress path. It has become one of the six fast developing States after disaster 2013. State agriculture growth rate is 5.5 percent and it is very heartening. As we know that law and constitution is supreme so guilty of Rampur Tiraha incident will be punished in coming days. We are taking legal help from advocate general. The crime was not committed against one person but it was against humanity. The nearby people who helped people by giving food and water to aggrieved aandolankari are icon of humanity.”
