leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Bhatt said that Chief Minister Harish Rawat should quit in view of the fact that his writ no longer runs in the State’s bureaucracy. “It is a pitiable spectacle of the CM crying from the rooftops that his incorrigible Babus are refusing to carry out his orders. It is thus better for him to quit rather than suffer the ignominy. This would be a good riddance for the administration as well as the people at large too if he bows out with dignity before it is too late,” the BJP leader said here on Tuesday.
Tearing into the Chief Minister for flippantly announcing projects at random, Bhatt said things on the ground are grim. “Rawat has announced over 10,000 projects since he assumed charge in 2013. But the pitiable fact is that just only 5 per cent of the pompously announced projects have come to implementation. This makes it crystal clear that the State Government has failed to nudge the bureaucracy the way it should. The sooner the farce ends the better for all,” he said.
He further said the State Government seems to have opened its purse strings, generously releasing funds here and there, mostly on trifles. “But the fact is that the funds he is squandering away in a prodigal fashion had come to the state’s coffer by way of disaster relief,” Bhatt said.
He also slammed the State Government for changing the State’s excise policy, saying sarcastically that Uttarakhand must be the first State under the sun where ‘mandi’, the marketing wing of the agriculture department, has been assigned the task of selling liquor to the authorised liquor shops in the State.
“Corruption and inefficiency ruling the roost in the State, law and order is crumbling, emboldening the criminals to go on the prowl. Crimes, particularly rapes, are on the spiral,” the senior saffron leader said.
