CM, Mayor visit trenching ground

An anti-odour organic agent was sprayed on the municipal trenching ground near Sahastradhara Road by Chief Minister Tivendra Singh Rawat along with the Dehradun Mayor and Dharmpur MlA Vinod Chamoli and others on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the work will be completed according to the standards at the Shishambada waste treatment plant and trenching ground in the near future. Following this, the municipal trenching ground will be shifted away from the Sahastradhara Road location.

At present, an organic product developed by an organisation is being sprinkled on the Sahastradhara Road trenching ground to kill the stench from the garbage and to convert it into manure, said the Chief Minister. Rawat also interacted with the local residents and sought information from them during his visit to the trenching ground. Apart from the Chief Minister and the Mayor, various officials were also among those present on the occasion.

It is pertinent to mention here that the municipal trenching ground at Sahastradhara Road has been a cause for much protest by the local residents who have been demanding for some years now that it should be relocated to another location. The stench emanating from this trenching ground and the resulting health risk is a major problem being faced by those residing in the vicinity of the trenching ground. It is also worth mentioning here that Dehradun city is estimated to generate about 300 metric tonnes of solid municipal waste every day.
