Chief Minister Harish Rawat launched noted environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna’s new book in Hindi on the man who inspired him and an entire generation of tree planters, Richard St Barbe Baker here on Wednesday. Titled Richard St Barbe Baker: Wah Manav Jiska Jeevan Vano Ke Prati Samarpit Raha, the book is a tribute to the man who dedicated his life to planting trees.
According to him planting trees was in his blood. Bahuguna has paid tribute to the greatness of this one human being and his impact on the world. During the launch, Bahuguna expressed concern at the excessive plantation of pine in the mountains. People should be discouraged from this practice and should opt for planting of fruit and broad leaved trees, he said.
The CM commended Bahuguna’s efforts and also spoke about the measures taken by the State Government to encourage plantation of fruit and fodder trees by the people.
Vidhan Sabha speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal was also among those present on the occasion.
