CM launches MSY in dairy sector

Uttarakhand is the first State where a scheme like the Mukhyamantri Swarozgar Yojana (MSY) has been launched. Self employment opportunities are being provided under this scheme for those who have been impacted by Covid-19 and have returned to the State apart from women and the youth. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said this at a programme in which under the MSY, milch cattle were provided as part of the integrated cooperative development project and Ganga Gai Mahila Dairy Yojana on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, Rawat stressed on the importance of self employment for an Atmanirbhar Bharat. Referring to MSY, he said that there is provision for loan and grant under the scheme with about 150 types of works included. Applicants can start any of these works depending on their interest and experience.

The CM said, “The Prime Minister announced a Rs 20 lakh crore package with special focus on strengthening the nation’s economy.

He has exhorted all to work for Atmanirbhar Bharat. As part of efforts aimed at this, not only was the MSY prepared but its execution on ground has also been started.

Self employment has also been accorded top priority in the district plan.”

Rawat said that the Government is aiming at increasing the availability of milk in the State.

Considering this, it was decided that under the scheme milch cattle will be brought from outside the State. Simultaneously, work is also being undertaken on conservation of Badri cow.

Ghee made from the milk of this cow fetches a considerably high price in the market. Attempts are being made to increase their productivity and some success has also been achieved in these efforts, he said.

State Minister for Cooperatives and Dairy Development, Dhan Singh Rawat said that MSY is a major step taken for the welfare of the State’s people in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A total of Rs 444.62 crore has been approved under the national cooperative development project for the dairy sector.

Under this, provision for loan and grant has been made for strengthening the dairy cooperative associations, establishing cold storage chains and providing technical facilities. He further said that the purchase of 20,000 milch cattle from outside the state for 5,400 beneficiaries will be facilitated under the scheme.

In the current financial year- the first year of the scheme, 10,000 milch cattle will be purchased by 2,800 beneficiaries.

The cost of each cattle is paid with 65 per cent loan, 10 per cent contribution by the beneficiary and 25 per cent grant through the Ganga Gai Mahila Dairy Yojana.

Stating that there is considerable scope for self employment in the dairy sector, he said that the State Government is aiming to link more than 10,000 people with self-employment in this sector.
