Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat greeted the people and the Indian Army on the eve of the Vijay Diwas. In his message, he said that this day signifies the bravery, valour and honour of the Indian Army. “Our heroic soldiers are always ready to protect the country, a tradition we are all proud of.

The supreme sacrifice made by the brave soldiers to protect the country's borders would always be held in grateful remembrance by the nation.”

While congratulating the Indian Army, ex-servicemen and the people of Uttarakhand and the country, he further said that the glorious tradition of embracing suffering and sacrifice for the cause of the motherland would never die. “We are proud of the tradition and the whole country salutes the valour of the members of the Indian Army,” CM added. Notably, Vijay Diwas is celebrated on December 16 to mark the historic victory of the Indian Army over Pakistan.

The day celebrates the occasion of 93,000 members of Pakistani troops raising white flags and surrendering to the Indian Army and Mukti Bahini, calling an end to the Indo-Pak war of 1971.

This conflict was triggered by the liberation war of the present-day Bangladesh which was erstwhile East Pakistan seeking severance from West Pakistan
