CM flays BJP brass talk of dissolving Assembly

The top leadership of the BJP talking of getting the Vidhan Sabha in Uttarakhand dissolved and taking the State towards mid-term polls is condemnable and a cause for concern, said Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, the CM said that following the BJP State executive meet at Rudrapur, the top party leadership had talked about a political proposal for the dissolution of the Vidhan Sabha and bringing about mid-term polls in Uttarakhand. “Had the State leadership of the party said this, I would not have objected to it as it is their right, but top party leadership saying so is a cause for concern. It appears as if the BJP has lost faith in the parliamentary system and democratic set up.

The Prime Minister has already announced from the ramparts of the Red Fort that the planning commission would be replaced by an alternative body whereas such a decision should not be unilateral. While on the one hand governors are being told by top bureaucrats to submit their papers, on the other hand party leaders are talking of getting the State Assembly

dissolved. We have already made it clear that the State will work with the Central Government for development of Uttarakhand and honours the lead role of the Prime Minister. However, it seems as if the BJP has lost faith in the democratic system. They have the right to criticise and question the functioning of the State government but should not threaten the dissolution of the Vidhan Sabha,” said the CM. When asked about the difference of opinion between Agriculture Minister Harak Singh Rawat and Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyaya being played out in the media, the CM maintained that there was no factionalism or dissatisfaction in the Congress.
