Amid rising voices against his Government even from within his own party as well as from the Opposition ranks after the Congress party's lok Sabha poll debacle in Uttarakhand and elsewhere in the country, Chief Minister Harish Rawat's mission to seek his election to the State legislative Assembly allegedly poaching into BJP's MlAs, is not so easy this time.
It is worth mentioning here that it is a Constitutional requirement for Chief Minister Rawat to get elected from any assembly segment within six months i.e. till July 2014, after assuming the charge of office of the Chief Minister.
Though in the light of rising speculations about his meeting with Chief Minister Rawat, BJP MlA from the Bhimtal Assembly constituency, Dan Singh Bhandari, has denied any such meeting with Chief Minister Rawat and has also served a notice to a local Hindi daily for publishing a report about his alleged meeting with Chief Minister Rawat a few days ago in Haldwani, it would not be easy for Chief Minister Rawat to get elected from any Assembly constituency as out of 70 Assembly segments of Uttarakhand like his predecessor Vijay Bahuguna who not only was able to eat into BJP's legislative Assembly strength by bringing one of its MlAs Kiran Mandal to party fold but also defeated the BJP in the Sitarganj by polls with a huge margin about two years back.
The ruling State Congress party's poor show in the recently concluded parliamentary elections in which it has been able to get more votes than its rival BJP only in seven out of 70 Assembly segments in Uttarakhand, only gives that impression.
The Congress party is reported to have majority votes only in two Assembly seats of the Almora —Pithoragarh parliamentary seat, one in Tehari lok Sabha seat and four assembly segments of the Haridwar lok Sabha seats in the lok sabha polls-2014.
It is worth mentioning here that out of 14 Assembly segments of the Nainital -Udham Singh Nagar seat from where Chief Minister Rawat had huge expectations, his party could not save even the Haldwani Assembly constituency from where State Cabinet Minister Inidra Hardiyesh is MlA and the Bazpur Assembly seat from where State party president Yashpal Arya is an MlA as these seats are considered as strong hold of the ruling party.
In the present political scenario that emerged after the popular verdict, after BJP's Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank's election to the lok Sabha from Haridwar seat and the same party's Ajay Tamta's victory as MP from the Almora-Pithoragarh parliamentary constituency only two Assembly constituencies including the Doiwala Assembly constituency and the Someshwar Assembly constituency respectively are presently vacant in the State.
Since Someshwar Assembly constituency is a reserved seat, therefore, obviously Chief Minister has technically the Doiwala Assembly pocket open for seeking his election to the State legislative Assembly.
But in the recently concluded lok Sabha polls where the citizens have hugely supported the BJP, it would interesting to see amid changing political scenario in the Himalayan State, whether the Chief Minister Rawat would take an another political gamble as he had taken by fielding none other than his wife Renuka Rawat from Haridwar lok Sabha constituency, by offering his candidature from the Doiwala Assembly constituency to seek his election to the state assembly where Nishank is considered to have a strong hold or he would go his predecessor Vijay Bahuguna's way to seek his election to the State Assembly by taking his next electoral battle to the Opposition court in terms of getting any Assembly seat vacant from the Opposition BJP MlA.
