Uttarakhand is known for tourism, so the State Government is dedicated to providing all kind of facilities to tourists on all tourist spots.

This view was expressed while Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna dedicated lED street lights scheme to the public in Mussoorie on Wednesday. He also stressed that there is an expectation from all Government servants to get associated with the State. Instead of executing their part of work on routine basis, they should implement their duty actively. Union and State Government have been implementing several schemes for public welfare so there is need to implement the schemes on ground level at local and district level.

The CM said, "We have to work to develop alternate sources of energy. State has a capacity to generate 700 MW power from non-conventional resources. Mussoorie attracts millions of national and international tourist per year. A plan of action for developing Mussoorie would be prepared and parking problems are being looked into by the MDDA. The problem of potable water would also be attended," he said.

State Tourism and Renewable Energy minister Amrita Rawat said that lED street lights, which were installed in Mussoorie, will be installed in the entire State. Solar street lights would be placed on the Doon-Mussoorie route. Keeping in view the gap between power generation and demand, we have laid emphasis on alternate energy. She also appealed the people to use this because its cost is lesser in long term. A piece of land has been identified for parking. She stressed that water, parking and toilets would be provided in all tourist places on priority basis. A ropeway, which is suppose to come up in between Mussoorie to Dehradun, will give tourism a new dimension in the state.

In Mussoorie, 500 lED street lights have been installed and its expense borne by Power Finance Corporation, New Delhi, as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). With these lED lights, around 1.5 lakh unit energy will be saved per year. With this, Mussoorie municipality will have to pay less electricity bill and will also check on carbon emission.

As part of energy conservation, 12,94,200 litres hot water is being used through solar water heater and 58751 units electricity is being saved per day. In Chakrata road, Dehradun 172 lED street lights have been installed while in Haldwani 386 lED street lights are being installed. Besides it, state government has prepared a plan to replace traditional electric bulbs with CFl in rural areas of the state, In which each family would be given four CFl and will be implemented by UPCl.
