Soon after returning to Dehradun from his visit to Haridwar on Monday evening, Chief Minister called a meeting of senior officials of the police and administration seeking information about the incident that took place at the waste treatment plant site at Shishambada on Monday.

According to official sources, the senior officers informed the CM that one present on the occasion had died as a result of cardiac arrest which has also been ascertained by the doctors. The family members of the deceased have refused post mortem examination of the body.

The officials further informed that during the waste treatment plant foundation stone laying function, some people protested at the site following which Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli was securely taken to a safe location.

It was further stressed that the person who had died during the demonstration was simply standing on one side of the road when he suddenly suffered from a heart attack which consequently led to his demise. The officials further refuted reports of lathi-charge on protesters by the police.

The Chief Minister has directed the district magistrate Ravinath Raman to facilitate immediate provision of Rs 1 lakh in assistance to the family of the person who died. He also directed the senior officials in the meeting that the local area in question should especially benefit from the waste treatment plant being set up in the Shishambada area. The manure which is prepared at this waste management plant should be made available free of cost to residents of nearby locations and for nominal cost to others.

The Uttarakhand director general of police MA Ganapathy along with other officials of the police and district administration were also among those present in the meeting.
