The State’s cooperative plan will have to be developed. To match up with changing circumstances, the cooperative banks will also have to change their approach. The banks must increase their role in farming, livestock, handloom and horticulture. This was suggested by the Chief Minister Harish Rawat while addressing in a workshop, which was organised NABARD, for the chairperson of State cooperative banks and district cooperative banks here in Dehradun on Friday.

CM Rawat described cooperative institutions as the base for rural loan arrangement. A plan must be designed for functional and non functional cooperative societies. Cooperative institutes must be made capable financially. The CM said that there are several points in Vaidyanathan committee which can be implemented. He also appealed to NABARD to extend support for cooperative institutes.

The CM gave directions to Secretary Cooperative Vijay Dhondhiyal to prepare an annual cooperative plan for the state. Support must also be taken from cooperative societies. Cooperative banks can play a major role in State’s development. Government’s several schemes such as agriculture, livestock, hand loom and horticulture are implemented. Under these, Government gives subsidies upto 80 per cent to the beneficiaries.

Cooperative banks can provide gap funding. The subsidy is provided through government. Cooperative banks will only have to look into recovery of gap funding. A marketing plan for beneficiaries must also be planned. Present in the meeting were Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Mahra, CGM Nabard CP Mohan and other officials.
