Closed blood bank opens after licence renewal

The blood bank in the district hospital (men) in Pauri which remained paralysed for the last five years due to non renewal of the license has started operating following  the renewal of the license. Nine units of blood being collected after the resumption of the operation, a blood donation  camp would be organised in the district hospital on Tuesday.

The people of the district headquarter Pauri and its adjoining areas are feeling relieved with things moving again. “We would no longer be forced to move far for blood,” said a senior citizen residing in Pauri.

It is pertinent to mention that that the license of the blood bank was not renewed since it lapsed   in December 17 2012 allegedly thanks to the apathy of the authority concerned. Things started moving  after a central team visited Pauri for inspection. The pathologist Dr Kandwal, who is also the in charge of the blood bank, said that nine units of blood have been collected so far and on Tuesday , the blood bank camp is being organised to collect more.

The blood bank had come into being following initiative of a pathologist posted in the district hospital lalit Mohan Gusain.  The license had been given for years from 2007 to 2012.

During this period, the blood bank operated in full swing, helping the common people immensely.

But things had got back to the square one after the pathologist was transferred with nobody  being sent to replace him.
