After a wet spell bringing rain and snow across the State which started on Sunday night, the climate would remain mostly dry on Wednesday as per the forecast issued by the Meteorological centre. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain/snow occurred at most places in Uttarakhand on Tuesday. In Dehradun, while the sky remained overcast for most part of the day it drizzled in some places.
Uttarakhand Meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said that snowfall was reported from the higher reaches while it rained at isolated places in the plains over the past 24 hours. Besides, hail lashed some places, including Mussoorie, while ground frost was seen at isolated places in the hills over the past 24 hours.
By 8.30 pm, 20 mm rainfall was reported from Ranikhet while 10 mm each from Chaukhutia, Tyuni, Munsiyari, Bhatwadi, Dunda, Uttarkashi and Purola. The highest maximum temperature 23.6°C was recorded in Dehradun while the lowest minimum temperature 1.3°C was recorded at Mukteshwar.
Singh said that ground frost is likely to form at isolated places in the hills of Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours.
The wet spell has brought smiles on the gloomy faces of the farmers and those involved in horticulture. Scanty rainfall over the past three months in the state had left them worried in apprehension of crop loss. The recent spell of rain in the plains and snow in the higher reaches of the mountainous districts are considered good for those engaged in wheat cultivation and also those who make a living through horticulture.
However, the weathermen have ruled out possibility of the approach of another western disturbance which triggers rain/snow in the coming days.
The maximum temperature would rise at various places in the state in the next few days, Singh said, adding that the climate of Uttarakhand would remain mostly dry while the sky might remain overcast at some places. However, he issued ground frost warning for isolated places in the hills during the next 24 hours.
