Members of the Clement Town Residents Welfare Society staged a protest outside the office of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) against the delay in repairing the Turner Road which was dug up last year for drainage works. They warned that they would undertake intense agitation if the authority fails to ensure road repair without further delay. The protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the MDDA vice chairman, seeking swift work on the road.
In the memorandum submitted to the MDDA vice chairman, the Clement Town Residents Welfare Society have stated that for eight months, the residents of Clement Town, Mothrowala, Asharodi, Chanchak, Bharuwala and Bharuwala Grant were facing inconvenience and many of them have been injured in road mishaps due to the deteriorated condition of Turner Road.
The Turner Road was dug up for laying underground drainage pipes for redressing the water logging problem at the ISBT. They pointed out that slabs should be placed above the roadside drains after they are repaired so that these can be used by pedestrians. The locals have expressed apprehensions about the success of the drainage works on which crores of rupees are being spent. They further pointed out that Turner Road is considered to be one of the important roads of Dehradun.
Considering this, the authority should fix a three-month deadline for completing the repair and construction works on this road. Failing this, the locals would be forced to undertake a public movement against the authorities and the delay in the road repair. The locals also stated that the 13 streets under the purview of the Cantonment Board also need to be linked to the drainage system.
