Civic body still lethargic over land encroachment

Published on:

With the Municipal Corporation ascertaining that its land has been encroached upon by the builder of Pacific Hills apartments on Rajpur Road, questions lies about the apathy of the authorities towards blatant land encroachment.

The Housing and Urban Development minister Pritam Singh Panwar has said that necessary measures should be taken to prevent this but the ground reality is different.

It will be recalled that last week the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) Harak Singh Rawat had found that the builder had encroached on about 1200 square metres of municipal land.

It was later revealed that some years ago the reportn of the land measures taken at that time did not go beyond the Tehsil. The MNA said that the recent land measurement has confirmed that the builder has encroached upon the land and also constructed portion of the building. A wall will be constructed by the builder, said the MNA.

Though the CM Harish Rawat has repeatedly stressed against encroachment, the urban local bodies are not capable of tackling the issue.

Even officials admit off the record that political influence and corruption continue to prevent effective action against encroachment in the State capital.
