The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun and district administration demolished about 45 shanties built illegally on the banks of the Rispana river near the Dhauran Khas joggers park. Additional district magistrate Harak Singh Rawat headed the demolition.
Referring to those living in unauthorised constructions and encroaching on land, the ADM said that in the past the MCD officials had warned the occupants of the repurcussions. They were repeatedly told to look for shelter elsewhere but it had no effect on the encrochers — mostly labourers — continued to live along the banks of the Rispana. As they were not ready to vacate the land, the administration and MCD officials had to take recourse to demolishing the encroachments. Rawat clarified that the authorities will continue against those living in unauthorised constructions along the banks of rivers in Dehradun. The additional Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Uday Singh Rana, CO Mussoorie Jaya Baloni, MCD staff and police personnel were also present during the demolition drive on Saturday.
