City's private medical labs making profits at cost of patients!

The agony that one Anil Rawat, son of a poor peasant now residing in Dehradun on rent, suffered due to a pathological centre’s faulty report must act as a wake-up call for the otherwise complacent denizens of the Capital city.

It is understood that the youth was diagnosed RA factor on the higher side at a diagnostic centre — Modern Diagnostics Pathology lab — located on New Road, Dehradun on June 6. Worried, he approached three other pathology centres, one after another, to be sure. To his relief, he found that the reports of all of them said that his RA factor was well within the normal range.

Seeking explanation, he approached the Pathology lab, but he was literally  shooed away by the doctor who had done the test. More, they called up police to browbeat him into silence.

However, things did not happen the way the doctor intended as some activists of BJP’s student wing ABVP reached the spot. They called the media. Seeing things turning hostile, Kotwali police station in-charge who had been there to stand guard on the ‘threatened’ doctors chose to take to his heels, leaving behind a few police personnel there.

Feeling pain on his knee, Anil approached Dr Manish Jha who asked him to go for pathology test. Acting on his advice, he approached Modern Diagnostics Pathology lab on June 6. The report found that his RA factor was on the higher side. Taking the report as right, a worried Anil approached Dr Harsh K Johri on June 9. He prescribed medicines for 40 days and injection every fortnight. However, his pain kept on turning acute despite abiding by what the doctor asked him to do. In a fit of helpless desperation, he approached Dr SK Gupta. As per the doctor’s advice, he again went for pathological test at another centre. He found to his relief that his RA was within the normal range. Once bitten twice shy, he visited another pathology centre. The report was again negative. Not satisfied yet, he visited Dr lal pathology and got the same negative report.

Being convinced then that the Modern Diagnostics Pathology lab had played fraud on him, Anil approached the laboratory. However, shock was in store for him as he found Dr Peeyush Goyal, who had conducted his pathology test, rejecting his allegation. When told that three reports on the same had contradicted his finding, he nearly shooed him away, saying that it was not their responsibility to cross- check with other laboratories.  Shocked by the unabashed demeanour of the doctor, Anil called up his friend. Meanwhile, police led by Kotwali police station in-charge reached the diagnostic centre. The law-enforcers embarked on the beaten tracks of mutually settling things down.

The question is — just making the errant lab to cough up a sum of money to be given to one of the victims of their malfunctioning is enough to take on the menace of making people suffer agony that hapless Anil has borneIJ
