A sanitation drive was organised to clean Sahastradhara-one of the most frequently visited tourist place on Saturday. Many youngsters and students of various colleges participated in the drive. The drive was organised by an organisation, ‘the Waste Warriors’.
According to the organisers, more than 50 youngsters volunteered to clean Sahastradhara and more than 200 kilograms of solid waste was collected from the tourist spot. The waste will be further segregated and processed thereby preventing the waste to reach the landfills. The aim of the drive is to transform Sahastradhara into a zero-solid waste tourist destination.
The volunteers who participated in the drive were from different colleges and universities.
Deputy municipal commissioner Rohitash Sharma lauded the volunteers who participated in the drive. “The word about the drive which was organised to clean Sahastradhara must be spread so that people must become aware about the ill effects of waste being disposed in water bodies. The solid waste thrown in water bodies destroys the ecological balance and thus affects not just animals and plants but humans too,” said Sharma.
“Not just Sahastradhara, but youngsters must participate in such drives to clean other places too. It is a responsibility of every citizen to keep their city and the country clean. Drives like these will promote Dehradun to become number one city of the country in cleanliness,” he said.
Sharma also appealed that more and more people especially youth and children of the city must participate in drives like these towards making Doon cleaner and greener and each one of us should take inspiration from these volunteers.
