n The newly elected city mayor Anita Sharma said that she would soon order a probe into the alleged scams and misappropriation of funds by the municipal corporation helmed by the BJP. “Even the misuse of lands would come under the purview of the probe,” she said. Invoking the zero tolerance against corruption rhetoric often flaunted by the Chief Minister, the city mayor from Congress averred that the new civic body would not brook corruption in any form. “We would probe the cases of corruption which surfaced during the time BJP helmed it and stringent action would be taken against those to be found involved in them,” she said.
Speaking to the media persons on Monday, Anita Sharma further said that as the treasury of the civic body being empty, development works had gone on at a snail’s pace under the BJP. “Now things must change. No one would be allowed to be lackadaisical in development and welfare works. The city is littered with garbage and the solid waste collection system is lying in doldrums. I know how the city is as I inspect it daily,” she said.
The husband of the mayor Ashok Sharma who was also present at the press conference said that though Jagjeetpur has been incorporated in the expanded jurisdiction of the municipal corporation no staff member has been appointed yet to work for the area. “Along with the incorporation of the new areas to the civic body jurisdiction, funds for development should have been sanctioned.
If the new areas taken into the civic body are not appropriately developed it would negate the logic behind the incorporation,” he said. He further said that keeping the city clean is a major responsibility of the new civic body. “If the company KRL, which has been given the contract of looking after the solid waste management, fails to work to the expected level their contract would be scrapped and a new company would be entrusted with the responsibility. We are committed to make the city clean as per the mandate we have received. We would not also allow anybody to be apathetic to the people’s suffering,” he affirmed.
