City buses body up against e-rickshaw in Doon

The association of city buses of Dehradun has questioned the Transport department’s motive behind issuance of permits to large number of e- rickshaws in Dehradun.

In a letter directed to the District Magistrate of Dehradun, association president Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal said that the more than 170 e-rickshaws are plying on the road of the city and transport authorities are giving more permits to these vehicles.

He said the notification of Road Transport and Highways Ministry has clearly stated on August 31, 2016 that e-rickshaws can be allowed to ply in specific area and road and they should be stopped from operating in populated areas.

He said that in Dehradun these vehicles are operating without any restriction. Dandariyal said that 1200-1300 legal and illegal Vikrams are operating in city while the number of autos is more than 3,000.  He said that these vehicles are cause of air and noise pollution and poor traffic condition in provisional capital.
