The fresh trial traffic plan introduced by the State police administration in the town has not just left locals in a quandary about the route, but has also generated a problematic situation for the local city bus transporters here.
In order to ease the traffic flow at major market places of the town, Dehradun police has recently introduced the trial traffic plan, as part of which the traffic is being diverted from major market place of the city including lansdowne Chowk, Chakrata Road, Tehsil Chowk and Clock Tower. As per the trial plan being implemented the traffic coming from the Gandhi Road, lansdowne Chowk towards Chakrata Road and Rajpur Road are being diverted from the left side of the Darshanlal Chowk and the vehicles are not allowed to go to Clock Tower directly crossing Gandhi Park.
Police personnel said it to be just a trial plan and are expecting the commuters and the transporters to give their support in implementing the plan effectively in the State capital. However, this change in traffic plan has disappointed major section of the society, including the local transporters. According to the President of Parade Ground, Parwal, Premnagar City Bus Union, Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal, this traffic plan is being forcefully imposed, which is troubling almost all transporters of the city.
He said that generally, the local city transporters hold a bus permit which is meant especially for some mentioned routes and are allowed to travel on that routes only. However, as per recent modifications done in the trail traffic plan, transporters are allowed to carry their vehicles on different routes as well.As per the norms of the Motor Vehicle Act, transporters are not allowed to travel on any other routes other than mentioned in the permit, he said.
He also added that if found driving on other routes mentioned in their permit, transporters may also be liable for checking and may fall into trouble in such cases. If the driver who is driving on different routes from their permit and unfortunately faces some casualty or any accident, would also be imprisoned. However, several discrepancies were also witnessed in the traffic trial plan. To ease the commuters traffic police had placed new sigh boards at most of the routes of the town including lansdowne Chowk, Darshanlal Chowk and Clock Tower.
