Citizen woes increase due to strike of Govt employees

The public of Dehradun are facing problems due to the indefinite strike of the members of Uttarakhand General-OBC Employees Association.

According to some locals, the State Government is responsible for the absence of employees from the various government offices which is causing considerable inconvenience to the citizens.

The strike of the General-OBC employees in the State has been going on for more than 10 days now, which has begun to have an adverse effect on the lives of people.

According to a Rajpur resident Karan Chandela, “I have visited the Regional Transport Office (RTO) thrice in one week but still could not get a learner’s license for a bike. In the online application, they are giving date and time but there was negligible staff in the office. There were many fellows like me who were there for hours but nothing could happen due to the absence of the staff.”  “Due to the strike, the submission of some of my documents to complete the procedure of getting the pension in the Social Welfare Department is stuck for the past one week. Every time I reach their office, there are more common people and a handful of staff members.

I am a widow and have two daughters and leaving them alone at home every day just to submit few documents is not possible for me.

Last week I came at least twice a day for three days but failed to deposit the documents. I do not know when the employees will stop the strike,” said Deepa Pannu, a resident of Jakhan.

According to a Dalanwala resident Manglesh Sharma, “I waited for four hours in the office of Education Directorate to get my work done. The government should really do something about the strike of the employees.”

However, some of the people consider the State government responsible for their trouble in the government offices due to the strike of general-OBC employees.

According to them, the inability of the government to take a fair decision without delay is the reason behind the absence of employees in the State.

“Had the government declared that the promotions will be given on merits rather than reservations, the employees would have returned to their work sooner.

If somebody less worthy than me would get the promotion just because he/she belongs to a particular caste then I’ll fight for my rights too.

The government is just busy playing vote bank politics,” said a school teacher Umed Naithani.
