Citizen seeks probe into an under-construction building

A resident of Vishnu Ghat, Haridwar has demanded a probe into the functioning of Haridwar Roorkee Development Authority (HRDA) by the District Magistrate regarding an under- construction building. Nearly 70 percent of the construction has been completed despite the fact that it was not approved by HRDA, the complainant alleged.

Vivek Bhardwaj, the complainant, said that it was amazing that the construction at Vishnu Ghat was near completion despite non-approval by HRDA. As per the complaint, the old building had been demolished and a three-storied building was being constructed in its place.

Speaking to The Pioneer, Bhardwaj said, “In April 2018, the building was sealed twice, but in spite of it, the construction has been going on apace and it is nearing completion. More importantly, the matter has been pending in the High Court.”

It is learnt that earlier a complaint had been lodged in the district court by the owner of the building Ishwar Dayal Kansal. However, the district court had no right to hear the case as it has been pending in the High Court, alleged Bhardwaj.

Bhardwaj said that he had written to the District Magistrate, demanded a probe into the matter. “I hope that a fair probe would be taken up by the district authorities,” he added.
