The pilot and technical assistant of a helicopter involved in relief works in disaster affected area of Uttarkashi district had a narrow escape after they were forced to make an emergency landing. The duo sustained injuries and were brought to a private hospital in Dehradun.
According to information provided by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), a helicopter of Aryan Aviation Private Limited engaged in post-disaster relief operations in Arakot area of Uttarkashi district made an emergency landing at Nagwara while on its way to Chiva from Arakot.
While the helicopter was damaged in the incident, the persons on board including the pilot Sushant Kumar Jaina from Madhya Pradesh and technical assistant Ajit from Haryana sustained some injury. The duo was taken by the state helicopter to Dehradun where they were admitted to a private hospital.
It is learnt that this accident, like the previous one, also occurred when the pilot was attempting to avoid the overhead cables set up in the area to transport apples from villages to the road-head.
It will be recalled that three persons had died on Wednesday when a helicopter engaged in relief work crashed after dropping supplies in a disaster affected area.
The pilot of that ill-fated chopper was also trying to avoid the overhead cables when the helicopter crashed onto the mountainside.
Meanwhile, relief works have continued in the disaster affected villages of Uttarkashi district where disaster caused by heavy rains on August 18 had resulted in 15 deaths, three persons missing and 12 persons sustaining injuries in a 70 square kilometre area of Kotigad valley in Mori Tehsil.
