Refusing to buy the State Government’s point of the High Court having given them a clean chit vis-à-vis the raging liquor sting scam, State BJP chief Tirath Singh Rawat said on Saturday the party would intensify their demand for CBI inquiry into the sting CD. They would not rest until the Government recommended a CBI probe to unravel the matter, he said.
“We would continue to show black flags to Chief Minister Harish Rawat wherever he goes until he accedes to our demand,” he said.
Rubbishing the State Government’s claim that the High Court had upheld its liquor policy, he said that the court had dismissed the PIl filed by Shamsher Singh Bisht only when the State’s advocate general informed it of the principal secretary now probing the matter.
“The court told the petitioner that he is free to approach court again if the ongoing inquiry proves unsatisfactory. This hardly means that the court has given them a clean chit,” Rawat added.
“It seems that the principal secretary and DGP whom the State Government has asked to send the CD for forensic test are confused themselves. Now, the judiciary is the only place left to clear the cobwebs hung over the case. We would wait for the next six weeks till the probe is over. Then we would approach court again,” he said.
Stating that the CM was on the run following their decision to show black flags to him, he said Rawat had cancelled his Haridwar trip on Saturday to avoid embarrassment. Rawat said they would approach the Governor again after August 10-two weeks since they served a memorandum to him demanding a CBI probe. “If Rajbhawan fails to satisfy us we would meet Home Minister Rajnath Singh and demand CBI inquiry on the sting CD issue. If things remain the same we would meet the President in Delhi,” he said.
Quizzed over whether his party is patronising the people engaged in illegal construction in Dehradun, Rawat said that they expected MDDA to hammer down all unauthorised structures in the same manner they had demolished the one of Ashok Pandey. “We hope the hammer would fall on the ones erected by PCC president Kishore Upadhyay’s brother on Rajpur Road. We would meet MDDA officials soon on the matter,” he said.
