Along with other States like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Chhath puja was celebrated in Uttarakhand with religious fervour. The holy city wore a festive look for the three days since Tuesday while the final offering to the Sun God was made on early Friday morning.
Many tourists also celebrated the Chhath festival along with the local residents. Har Ki Pauri and other Ganga ghats remained chock- a- block with devotees since Tuesday till Friday morning.
The tradition says that offering Ganga water and milk in the morning to the sun god brings prosperity at home. The couples who do not have children generally undertake fasting and pray to the god for the offspring.
Although both men and women follow the fasting and worshipping routines the women are markedly visible while draped in traditional attire doing the rituals.
Surendra Prasad from SIDCUl said that the women folk from Purvanchal keep fasting and pray to the sun god during the four-day puja.
“The people from Bihar and eastern UP, no matter wherever in India they are presently settled, celebrate the festival," he added.
