Newly appointed Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Rautela said that his priority would be to control crime and improve traffic regulation in the State capital.
Interacting with media persons, Rautela said that police would be made responsible and would lay emphasis on building police- public partnership to revive public confidence further and seek information related to crime cases. Rautela said that several steps including intensification of patrolling will be taken to reduce crime cases and emphasis will be laid on women’s security.
FIR will be lodged in the Police Station against the guilty if the police officer receives a complaint from the victim. “The police stations’ in-charge have been directed to be vigilant in their areas and flash information about any crime to their nearby counterparts so that they would be able to apprehend the culprits, who usually flee from the scene after committing crime,” he added.
The SSP said that his predecessor had taken effective measures to improve traffic situation in the city. Barring some minor changes, he would follow the same system to prevent traffic congestion in Dehradun. He would review anti-theft cell, senior citizen's cell, cyber cell and medical helpline and steps will be taken for their improvement in the district. Rautela opined that there are several reasons which prevent police from strengthening their network of informers which has led to failure in solving old murder cases. Moreover, with the advancement in technology, offenders are taking all precautions before committing crimes.
Earlier police used to be in contact with locals and keep an eye on people’s movement in their assigned area. In the past, by following this method, police were able to solve murder cases apart from checking other crimes like eve teasing. Presently, due to weak network of informers, police rely on technology and try to solve the cases scientifically, he said. In order to strengthen the informers' network, beat police will be directed to be in contact with locals and keep an eye on people’s movement in their assigned area.
Apart from this, they will be directed to improve the way of functioning in order to keep an eye on anti-social activities. The SSP has completed his school education from a public school in Dehradun and secured degree from Meerut College Meerut (Uttar Pradesh). He has also served as DSP in Pilibhit, Muzaffarnagar, Kanpur City, lucknow, Dehradun and Chamoli; SP (Rural) in Haridwar, SP (City) in Dehradun; SP in Rudraprayag, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar and SSP in Kumbh Mela (Haridwar).
Before assuming charge as Dehradun SSP, he was posted as commander of the 46th Battalion Provincial Armed Constabulary at Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar.
