Dehradun Police has arrested a swindler Ramesh Satyanarayan, native of Maharashtra, currently residing in Bangalore, for allegedly duping a Dehradun-based businessman Ravindra, resident of Rajendra Nagar of lakhs. The cheat is said to have unleashed a woman Shobha who was introduced as Neha, a south Indian actress.

The accused was arrested in Bangalore on April 25. Dehradun Police brought him to Dehradun on Tuesday on transit bail for five days after he was produced before metropolitan magistrate, Bangalore. He was sent to Sudhowala jail after being presented in Dehradun Court, said Cantt Police station in-charge inspector Harish Mehra.

It should be mentioned here that based on written complaint from Ravindra, a case under sections 420/467/468/471/120b and 66/74 IT Act was registered against Ramesh in Cantt Police Station.

He said that in 2010, Ravindra had made his profile for marriage on Jeevansathi.com. It is learnt that Ramesh had been operating a racket and he had roped Shobha in to dope his prospective victims.

After seeing his profile, she (Neha) agreed to marry Ravindra. Shobha, who was posing as Neha, began chatting with him on internet and also talking on the phone. After two months, Neha (Shobha) demanded money from Ravindra by stating that her mother was afflicted with cancer.

Ravindra deposited Rs21 lakh in Ramesh’s bank account and Rs7.5 lakh in Shobha’s account. After a few days, Ravindra realised that he was being swindled by Ramesh and Shobha. Consequently, Ravindra registered a complaint and a case was registered in Cantt police station. Police recovered laptop, mobile phones and other items from his possession.

Investigation revealed that Ramesh had also cheated a Delhi native earlier. However, the case is unreported. Police said, if needed, Ramesh will be taken on police remand. Moreover, a police team has been sent to Bangalore to arrest Shobha, said inspector Mehra.
