Garhwal Commissioner CS Napalchayal has submitted the report of the inquiry into the collapse of the under-construction Chauras bridge on the Alaknanda river to the Uttarakhand Government. It held seven engineers, contractors and suppliers guilty against the points given for the probe. Napalchayal told 'The Pioneer' that the inquiry report has been submitted to the State Government. The seven engineers, contractors and suppliers are found responsible for the mess. Now it is up to the State Government to take action against them.
The department inquiry was completed by the Chief Engineer Public Works Department Garhwal region and his probe is a different one from the department inquiry, although the points for the inquiry had been framed by the department and Government.
It is pertinent to mention that the Chauras bridge which connected Srinagar in Pauri district to Chauras in Tehri district collapsed on March 25, 2012, killing six persons and injuring 18 others. Although technical inquiry, magisterial probe was conducted after a few days of the bridge mishap it took nearly three years to fix responsibility.
