Amid swine flu scare spreading thick and fast, negative report of a swine flu suspect has given some relief to the health officials concerned of the base hospital, Haldwani. The patient, a native of Champwat, has been discharged after finding his health report negative and some improvement of his health was also noticed. Following his poor health, the aforesaid patient from Champawat was admitted at the Haldwani base hospital on February 10.

His health samples—swabs of suspected H1N1 case—were sent to National Centre Disease Control, Delhi. However, on finding his report negative, the patient from Champawat has now been discharged, said the officials concerned of the said base hospital. However, an isolation ward has also been set up at the Haldwani base hospital to deal with the dreaded disease that is taking toll of lives across India with Uttarakhand accounting for two such deaths.

Three patients can be admitted to this isolation ward at a time if situation so warrants. Having put in place necessary health measures, the base hospital administration has also directed the health officials concerned to immediately take care of the swine flu suspects. The officials have also been ordered to send the samples for testing in case of any doubt. This aside, an isolation ward has been set up at the Government Shushila Tiwari Hosptial (GSTH), Haldwani.

About 10 patients can be admitted to this ward at a time, the health officials concerned of GSTH maintained. However, in view of the poor conditions of these Government— run hospitals to take on the diseases like swine flu, the State Government has also cleared decks for the suspected swine flu patients being admitted in private hospitals, if need be. At the same time, the health officials concerned said in case any private hospital admits a swine flu suspect, it should inform the respective district health department.
