The district administration, police and regional transport office have jointly launched a campaign to redress  traffic congestion in the district headquarter Pauri. They have imposed chalans on nearly 50 vehicles for the violation of traffic rules. The police have issued chalans on 25  such vehicles while the  assistant regional transport officer issued the same on 25 in course of  the drives launched over the past four days.  The drive will continue twice a week, it is learnt.

Efforts are being made to stop accidents particularly involving the two-wheelers due to dew. For this, the district administration has given instruction to the concerned departments to identify the roads that turn slippery due to the dew. The focus is trained mainly on the National High ways, roads under the control of Public Works Department and  PMGSY in the district. To avoid accidents, salt should be scattered along the dew- prone stretches of such roads.

Additional District Magistrate P l Shah warned that no person will be allowed to ply two wheelers without helmet, driving license and the required papers and action will be taken against the errant persons.

The drive of the administration, police and the ARTO will continue against the traffic rule violators, Shah said, adding that after 20 January, the helmet will be mandatory for the pillion riders too.

Incharge police Kotwali Pauri, Chandra Mohan Singh said that police will take action against those violating the traffic rules. Donning helmet and carrying driving licenses would be mandatory for those driving two- wheelers.  The message has been sent over the wireless to all the thanas, he added.

The citizens believe the authorities should continue with such drives and take stringent action against the violators to improve things on the roads in Pauri.
