In the aftermath of coaching class inferno in Surat which resulted in the death of 23 persons- mostly students lost their lives, the State’s Chief Fire Officer Sandeep Kumar Rana has served notice to 22 coaching centres and commercial buildings in Dehradun district of which 14 are in Dehradun and eight are in Rishikesh.
CFO Rana giving details about the drive said, “Law Prep Tutorial, Officers Maritime Academy, Chanakya Coaching Centre, IELTS Institute, Defence Academy, two centres of Doon Defence Academy, Hashtag Digital Marketing Agency, Gaffel Edu Mentors, Defence Officers Academy, The Institute of Computers Accounts, APT Institute, National Academy of Defence Services, Hotel Gharonda, Hotel Madhuban at Barrage Road Rishikesh, Hotel Ashoka, Bharat Bhumi Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, Hotel Moti Mahal, Hotel Himalaya, Hotel Aman Palace and Hotel Adarsh Yatra have been served notices. They have been instructed to rectify loopholes in fire security measures immediately. We will continue to conduct this drive.”
It is pertinent to mention here that the drive which started on Saturday, earlier served 12 notices to coaching centres which failed to fulfill fire security norms. However, observers point out that simply serving notices would have little effect unless action is not taken later against those who continue to remain apathetic to fire safety norms.
