CEO clears air on EC orders on poll officers

Published on:

To clear the confusion created with three different orders   being issued by the Election Commission, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Radha Raturi said that they would stop  the Returning Officer/Assistant Returning Officer/police officer  from being appointed for  the constituencies they had  worked in during the previous  election. “The officer who has served  in a constituency during the last Assembly election or by-poll would be  shifted to another  constituency. However, they  would not be  sent to other districts unnecessarily,” she said.

She said she  has written  to the  Principal Secretary Home, Secretary Personnel/Revenue on the  matter. Divisional Commissioners, DGP and DMs have been  asked to complete the transfer process by September 20, she said, adding that the officers  entrusted with election duties would not be  allowed to remain in his home district.   She added that the officer, who will complete their three years in designated places till March 31, 2017, will be transferred  to other areas. Three years include his promotion tenure as well.
