State Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj met Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for water resources in Delhi on Saturday. Rs 579 crore has been sought from the Central government for irrigation in the state. In order to strengthen the irrigation system in the state, canal cleaning, works related to flood control, an amount of Rs 579 has been sought from the Centre. Centre has pledged to give the same amount as financial assistance to the state. Along the Uttarakhand Nepal border, Pancheshwar dam would be constructed and regarding this issue, positive discussion was held with the Central minister, Maharaj added. After construction of this dam, thousands of people in Uttarakhand would have to be shifted.
