Continuing with his blistering attack on the BJP and the NDA Government at the Centre, ex-CM Harish Rawat said on Saturday that the Centre had sent two advisors to the Governor to land him in jail. He said this while interacting with the mediapersons at Bijapur Guest House. Earlier, a delegation of the guest teachers’ association, which has been staging a sit-in at Parade Ground, met Harish Rawat. Following the meeting, he called the press conference to share his views on it.
He further alleged that BJP has been exerting immense pressure over the bureaucrats to change the policy as framed by his Government for the welfare of the agitating guest teachers. “We went to the extent of amending rules to address their demands. In case the Government over-rules it we would go for a full-blown movement,” he warned.
“I have been receiving enough hints that the Centre is hell-bent on sending me to jail. With this objective in view, the advisors to the Governor are now scouting things to frame cases against me. However, I am invincibly convinced that their efforts would go waste. They would find nothing against me,” he affirmed while talking to the media persons.
Asked to react to around `100 crore being recovered from anti-mining operation in the past few weeks, Rawat said that there was nothing new in it. “They were made to pay dues in March,” he said.
Pooh-poohing charges that he himself was neck deep in unauthorised mining, Rawat said his Government had not issued a single permit or lease for a single crusher.
“On the other hand, during the time Vijay Bahuguna was the CM as many as 550 lease orders were issued. BJP regime did the same before. I am ready to face an inquiry to put the matters straight,” he said.
